Economist Joseph Stiglitz shows that economic inequality in the US is bad and getting worse. The causes are our dysfunctional style of capitalism and a political system that serves only the elite.
Our economic inequality is bad for democracy, bad for the US economy, even bad for capitalism, Stiglitz argues.
Part 2 has the conclusion of the talk and selections from the Q&A. The talk--though short on solutions--is a lucid and very listenable survey of the problems we face--and their causes.
Stiglitz gave this presenttion in Washington, D.C., in June 2012, on his tour supporting his book, The Price of Inequality: How Todays Divided Society Endangers Our Future (Norton, 2012).
"New World Notes" is produced under the auspices (Latin for "sheltering sky") of WWUH-FM, a community service of that beacon of light in darkest Connecticut, the University of Hartford.
Previously broadcast, as NWN #415, in February 2016. Files downloaded from the links, below, are identified as #415.
Joseph Stiglitz is former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors and former Chief Economist of the World Bank.
