Each week's host selects an artist than digs deep into the bands and artists that influenced the featured performer and in turns the bands and artists they influenced. Haberdasher here with special guest co-host, Jeff White and we’re focusing on the career of The Band. I felt like the fund drive was the perfect time to highlight the career on what I think is about one of the best bands of all-time. Jeff agrees and we have both read the bios, seen the rock-docs, and have loved this band for years.

The Band sounds too mainstream? Ha! Jeff and I have made it a goal to play lots of tracks that we hope you are unfamiliar with and our goal was to do a Band show and actually play very few Band tracks (we played 2 that are actually credited to The Band.)

So in the event quick recap – The Band is Levon Helm, Robbie, Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson. They started playing in 1958 as the back-up band for rockabilly singer, Ronnie Hawkins and then in 1965 rose to national prominence by backing Dylan on his first electric tour and making several records with Dylan. The original line-up released 7 studio albums (although one, Moondog Matinee is a collection of covers) as well as several acclaimed live recordings and of course the Last Waltz the album that accompanies the film that documents their farewell performance. They also recorded several albums with Dyan including the legendary Basement Tapes and the live record Before The Flood.

o New Basement Tapes – Duncan and Jimmy – The New Basement Tapes is a British-American musical supergroup made up of members Jim James, Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, Taylor Goldsmith, and Rhiannon Giddens. The group is best known for Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes, their 2014 album which consists of tracks based on newly uncovered lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan in 1967 during the recording of his 1975 album with The Band, The Basement Tapes.
