Interview with Spokesperson Shawn Brant one day after the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte blocked off a quarry located on the Culbertson Tract - disputed land adjacent to the Mohawk community of Tyendinaga.
OCAP Radio: CKLN News Department: Word of Mouth Programming www.ckln.fm
Located on the eastern boundary of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, the Culbertson Tract is made up of 923 acres of land, the subject of one of the more than 900 ongoing land claim disputes that remain unresolved in canada. On Thursday, March 22, the people of Tyendinaga took back a piece of the land that rightfully belongs to them. They closed a gravel quarry from which 150,000 tonnes of their land was being removed every year. This took place following actions earlier this year through which Tyendinaga's Rotiskenhrakehte successfully stopped plans for a $30 million dollar development project.
