Frederick Morrill, St. Lawrence County Legislator
Cancer Action News Network  Contact Contributor
June 27, 2013, 2:27 p.m.
Frederick Morrill is a member of the St. Lawrence County Legislature. Over the course of the past several years, Mr. Morrill has regularly spoken in opposition to Cancer Action NY requests for action by the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department to provide the residents of St. Lawrence County with a warning of the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) exposure health hazard constituted by the presence of POPs in the animal fat containing foods of the mainstream food supply, including: meats, fish, dairy products and eggs. On May 13, 2013, Legislator Morrill made a presentation to a committee of the St. Lawrence County Legislature in which he expressed criticism of the advocacy work of Cancer Action NY. Much of this presentation consisted of Mr. Morrill's argument that POPs exposure was not a significant contributor to cancer causation. He sought to make this argument by providing the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifications for POPs. Mr. Morrill failed to include in his information the following facts: (1) IARC classified PCBs as carcinogenic to humans in February 2013, and (2) IARC classified dioxin as carcinogenic to humans in 1997. The vast majority of scientific experts who are free to take positions that are displeasing to powerful corporate entities in the agriculture, foods and chemicals sectors of the economy are in agreement that POPs exposure is a significant contributor to cancer causation. The scientific literature strongly supports this conclusion. Minimizing POPs exposure is an important part of any cancer prevention strategy.

St. Lawrence County's economy is dominated by dairy farming and aluminum manufacturing. Some of the corporate milk producers of St. Lawrence County and the aluminum manufacturing corporation, ALCOA oppose telling the public what scientists know about animal fat contamination. They want to keep the people of St. Lawrence County in the dark about the cancer risk imposed by consumption of animal fats at current levels of food supply contamination. They want this because of their greed. Legislator Morrill is a greedy politician who allies himself with these bad corporate dairy farmers and ALCOA.

Legislator Morrill has attempted to deceive St. Lawrence County residents in order to justify his opposition to POPs exposure minimization education. The Truth is coming out concerning who cares about cancer in St. Lawrence County. The greedy corporate dairy farmers, ALCOA and their political allies, led by Frederick Morrill care nothing about the suffering and death caused by cancer in St. Lawrence County. Cancer Action NY cares about this cancer burden and is dedicated to bringing about the changes that will result in much reduced exposure to chemical carcinogens. The people of St. Lawrence County will know the Truth about chemical exposure and cancer risk because Cancer Action NY is persevering in providing this critical information. Bad dairy farmers, ALCOA and bad politicians can not stop us. We are the Revolution!
