At the age of 19, Shaka Senghor was jailed for shooting and killing a man. That event started his years-long journey to redemption. While serving his sentence for second-degree murder, Shaka discovered redemption and responsibility through literature and his own writing.

James Luther Bevel was a leader of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement who, as the Director of Direct Action and Director of Nonviolent Education of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) initiated, strategized, directed, and developed SCLC's three major successes of the era: the 1963 Birmingham Children's Crusade, the 1965 Selma Voting Rights Movement, and the 1966 Chicago Open Housing Movement. Rev. Bevel also called for and initially organized the 1963 March on Washington and initiated and strategized the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches.
