Dear Radio Friend,
This week's show features stories from NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Deutsche-Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and Sputnik Radio.

From JAPAN- Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov met with Kim Jong-un on Thursday supporting a phased approach to denuclearization. US military warships conducted provocative exercises near a group of islands in the South China Sea. In Brussels, activists laid out 4500 pairs of shoes to represent every Palestinian by Israel in the past 10 years. In a rapidly changing situation, on Monday the Italian president named a moderate supporter of the EU as interim Prime Minister after rejecting a Euro skeptic candidate for economic minister.

From GERMANY- The Italian political conflicts caused serious global economic instability. By Wednesday it was announced that new possibilities for forming a government were being discussed by the new Prime Minister and the right-wing parties who won recent elections. There will probably be new elections, but the strong sentiment for Italy to abandon the traditional political parties and to leave the EU will remain.

From CUBA- Cuba continues to deny accusations that mysterious attacks left US and Canadian diplomats with concussion like brain injuries. The UN Human Rights Council have listened to complaints from former Brazilian President Lula da Silva's lawyers- they claim the government is not allowing a fair trial and appeal, and that Lula should not be subjected to solitary confinement nor impeded in his run for president. Brazil has also been hit by a huge truckers strike over fuel prices leading to military intervention. The Harvard School of Public Health the death toll in Puerto Rico as a result of the September hurricane and aftermath was 4600, not 64. In Santiago Chile riots broke out between police and students protesting police brutality. Israeli warplanes launched scores of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip while Hamas fired dozens of rockets into southern Israel.

From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi interviewed the Palestinian Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat about the recent deaths in Gaza, and how the media characterized it. He also talks about how Israel and its government could reverse the dire cycle of violence that has increased with the assistance of Donald Trump and Nikki Haley.
