At a time when political polarization is intensified by the extremes of digital discourse, the Bughouse Square Debates are a public forum where people can encounter new ideas and share their own—in person!.

This speaker challenges neoliberal gentrification on Chicago's south side. Finance capitalists, in collusion with former President Barack Obama, promoted a "presidential library" in Chicago in order to drive a bulldozer through the cultural and legal prohibitions to Chicago's elected officials allowing private developers access to public park land for their projects.

Former President Barack Obama is fronting for the friends of Mayor Emanuel: real estate developers, fund managers and banks, leveraging his image to screw local residents out of prime park land - supposedly off limits - to real estate developers. Close to Lake Michigan, two square blocks of historic Jackson Park, near a first class public golf course, is where Obama and Co want to build the non-library which is expected to displace thousands of local area residents, who mostly happen to be low income and black. Hugh Iglarsh lays out the crime scene nicely. The residents and Friends of the Parks are fighting back. Community organizing stopped the scam behind the bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics from burdening Chicago's citizens with debt and martial law. The residents are fighting back (http://www.stopchicago.org/).
