Forget the political and historical blather and the managed mainstream news coverage, we are headed inexorably toward an event or events that cannot be prevented or sidestepped. Life rarely comes with happy, Hollywood endings and we all have entered a time in which the future will not be bright and without substantial pain. And it’s been like this for millennia. We just choose to forget, not remember, that civilization repeats the same mistakes when confronted with the same issues no matter the epoch. Only one thing is for sure: human behavior never changes.
Be Angry at the Sun
--Robinson Jeffers 1941
That public men publish falsehoods
Is nothing new. That America must accept
Like the historical republics corruption and empire
Has been known for years.
Be angry at the sun for setting
If these things anger you. Watch the wheel slope
and turn,
They are all bound on the wheel, these people,
those warriors,
This republic, Europe, Asia.
Observe them gesticulating,
Observe them going down. The gang serves lies,
the passionate
Man plays his part; the cold passion for truth
Hunts in no pack.
You are not Catullus, you know,
To lampoon these crude sketches of Caesar. You are far
From Dante’s feet, but even farther from his dirty
Political hatreds.
Let boys want pleasure, and men
Struggle for power, and women perhaps for fame,
And the servile to serve a Leader and the dupes
to be duped.
Yours is not theirs.
NOTHING'S WHAT IT SEEMS
--Benny and the International Texans

The unconcerned fool that you are, you better wake up and see
The shadowy kings of the earth, they'll take away your pride and your dignity
Steal every dime you have
And leave you holding the bag

Something's going on
You know it's not the way it's supposed to be
There's something very wrong
This nightmare that you're living's really not a dream
Nothing's what it seems

Right is wrong, good is bad; reality is redefined
Baby can't you figure it out, the Ministry of Truth is messing with your mind
They sent you to the government schools
Where they taught you not to break the rules

The mighty people that once had it all
Now they've got our backs against the wall
Make us beg; make us crawl
While the world cheers our meteoric fall

They closed the banks today; gotta turn your brother and your money in
Went by the church today; it might be the last chance to save your skin
Fought your way through the crowd
Just to see they burned it down

Something's going on
You know it's not the way it's supposed to be
There's something very wrong
This nightmare that you're living's really not a dream
Nothing's what it seems
